Our History
We have provided over one million hours of service to Somerset County since 1985!

The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)  of Somerset County started operation on October 28, 1985, through a grant to the Area Agency on Aging of Somerset County through ACTION, the federal domestic volunteer agency.  ACTION is now the Corporation for National Service.

RSVP offers opportunities for older citizens (55 and over) to use their talents and experience in community services.  RSVP of Somerset County has over 600 enrolled volunteers, placed with more than 70 nonprofit public or private organizations according to their interests and abilities.

RSVP supports volunteers by offering a variety of services, including: Interview and placement; Training; Insurance (accident and liability); Reimbursement for travel and meal expenses; Recognition and social events; and a bi-monthly newsletter.

Why Do RSVP Volunteers Get Involved?

RSVP volunteers choose how and where they want to serve.  Many volunteers continue the type of work they enjoyed earlier in life while others try something completely different.

As an RSVP volunteer, you may:

Mentor at-risk youth; serve the less fortunate at a food pantry or secondhand store; assist with the Meals on Wheels program; help with fundraisers and charitable events; work to improve the environment; or tutor children or adults.

Volunteers determine the number of hours they are able to serve. All RSVP volunteers receive a pre-service orientation followed by training from the agency or organization where they are placed.
