Inside The Nutrition Department Of The
Area Agency on Aging Of Somerset County

The Area Agency on Aging of Somerset County began its Food Service operations in the 1970s.  It has used several locations, such as the Pine Grill Restaurant, the old Armory building, and now the present location at 1338 South Edgewood Avenue , Somerset .

The Food Service Department started serving hot meals to the homebound consumers of Somerset County preparing approximately 130 regular diets daily.  In 1999, the Homebound Cold Breakfast Program was implemented with daily, bulk, and weekend deliveries. The Area Agency on Aging has not only filled a great need in the community, but surpassed all goals.  Frozen bulk meals and frozen weekend meals were added to the array of meals provided by the Area Agency on Aging.

The Food Service Department serves congregate sites, which have increased to 8 current sites within Somerset County .  June 2007 we will be adding a choice lunch entrée called Salad Select to our menus in Tuesday’s congregate setting.
